Andre’s Mom graciously brought down a 4L basket of wild blueberries from the great white north this past summer and we still have tons of them frozen, so I thought it was time to make a delicious dessert that can accomodate just about any occasion and any crowd. This is a quick recipe that is tasty, simple and refreshing. Pair it up with some delicious tortilla chips, salsa and beer and you’ve got the makings of a classy Sunday NFL football party. The recipe includes a packet of seasoning from Simply Organic, a seasoning we’ve come to love and won’t make Guacamole without. I’ve included a picture of the packaging after the jump!

This past weekend there was some birthday celebrating taking place at our house. My partner was celebrating his birthday, and he took a different approach this year. Usually, he adopts the whole ‘yeah, it’s my birthday and that’s okay . . . it doesn’t mean that much;’ however, this year he deviated taking centre stage. He wanted to have a ‘birthday party’ and all sorts of celebrations, which was great. Now, one of the most important parts of a birthday celebration is the cake and Andre let me explore my cake making skills, as he had no requests for a type of cake. Naturally, I selected a time consuming, but absolutely deliciously moist cake. I would recommend baking this cake for any kings of celebrations – even the ones that involve celebrating the simple things, like driving home and not stalling the car.

This has to be the easiest recipe I have ever posted on the site, but the amazing flavour and simplicity of these baked potato chips was beyond stellar! The basic principle is pretty simple: sliced potato, seasonings, and an oven. Read on for my directions.

It’s hump day and for some god forsaken reason I decided to spend a solid hour in the kitchen, actually, make it two, cooking up a storm. It had been a while since I had dedicated myself to a few new recipes, and tonight was the night for me to break that slump. This is the first of two recipes I worked on, and these potato pancakes are hands down the best potato pancakes I’ve ever tasted. Read on for the full directions!

I know I’m a little late posting this recipe, but I was on vacation and conducting my life at a slower pace. Anyway, my partner and I had some friends over for a Thanksgiving supper this year. As usual, I wanted to showcase my skills as an amazing baker and set out to find a recipe for pumpkin pie, but with a slight variation. I found a recipe with the end result being an amazingly delicious velvety smooth pumpkin pie that even transformed non-pumpkin pie eaters into fans. I think that says something! Enjoy!!

Do you have a food/dish that you associate with a season, and reminisce about the flavours and taste as soon as that perfect first seasonal day happens? I’m certain everyone must have one! For me, one of my favourite dish is Chili on a sunny, crisp Fall day. I have been in search of the ‘golden’ recipe for Chili for quite some time. Most of the recipes are a meat lovers dream come true, but I prefer my Chili with more beans than meat and some veggies. On Thanksgiving weekend, my search came to an end. I found THE recipe. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my partner, Andre, and I have.

It’s thanksgiving weekend in Canada and our first feast of the weekend was a quite affair that we both enjoyed. Out local grocer had prime rib roast on sale this week ( @ 4.97/lb, who can resist?) and this was our first foray into this much hyped roast, and it delivered.
I marinated the roast overnight in a simple beer and garlic marinade, then cooked it with a sliced onion and some red wine for added flavor. We added to that some fresh sweet carrots and oven broiled antique fingerling potatoes, and a lovely glass of Shiraz.
This post isn’t meant to be a full on recipe, but more or less a food journal. Today is our second feast of the weekend as we’re having some friends over to enjoy our very first full turkey feast! Here’s hoping it all goes well!
